Sure, it's a fundraiser, but you'll recognize many of the people.

We're off and running on our first day, beginning with the usual shuffling of waiver forms and layout of responsibilities.
The advance team has done a solid job of putting the infrastructure on; we've got a nice kitchen and meeting hall, with nearly enough electricity, and plenty of cold storage.
Trillium Dell has provided mountains of equipment and rigging for our use, securely staged at the end of the concrete.

We're Done!
Tired, too.
Look for more reporting in the next issue of Timber Framing.
In the meantime, thanks for your time and attention.

Again, no time to talk - we're back on site with beautiful weather and more double crane action. Finished all the big crane work before quitting time, and headed over to a special meal prepped by our new best friends in the kitchen.
It was a day of good-byes and congratulations; the crew gets smaller as people go back to their Real Worlds.

No time to talk - we're back on site with beautiful weather and more double crane action.
Goal today is safe and slow install of all highwork - including the compound stuff, the fitting of the silo anchors, all purlins, all rafters, and all clerestory parts, far far far off the ground.
In the meantime, take a look at the FolkSchool blog; it has some good writing and some web video.

What a day!
We've had it all; massive accomplishment, torrential rains, slick rigging and raising riffs, and more.
But since we're all toast, and since we need to get right back at it in the am, I am leaving you with a slideshow instead of annotate stills.
I recommend either Wake Up by Rage Against The Machine or Fiona Apple's cover of Across the Universe for a soundtrack. Check out the amazing threading of the entry bent between the towers. And do not overlook the fine cutting, and especially the clasped kingpost on the entry. Won't see that just anywhere.

A couple of short videos for your amusement:
I like the way these guys are editing us to make it look as if we're in control.

I must apologize for the paucity of reporting on this project; internet and cell access are quite sketchy. I'll head into the big city occasionally to post notes on our progress from now on.

In spite of the increase of the bandaid count from three to five today, it has been an excellent exercise in humidity.
Crane Driver Arron Ramsey arrived with a nifty 17tonner that he deftly greased through the access road and snuck up to the edge of the slab where he spent the day broiling in the sun, swinging loads off of the trailer and into position on the Bents below.
All the while GC Joe Murray and his cheerful crew were back filling and compacting the retaining wall - right in the middle of everything - 'sort of like the real world' one veteran timber framer opined.

Probably our craziest day yet on site.
GC Joe Murray and his crew are pouring concrete under our feet, with a pump from the highside, while John Clarke and his crew are pushing the silo caps into position for installation.
All the while, Gabel's crew is wrestling with big timber and the fitup of Bent 1 (the second being built), while back in the cutting barn the layup of the entry bent progresses, cutting runs down to stems and seeds on the rest of the parts, and we integrate two new arrivals, Marci and Mike.

We took the morning off!
Folks are pretty toasted after a week of heavy work.
There are no looming weather issues . . . yet.
The schedule us 'right where we want to be'.
So we didn't assemble until noon, when Lou Lanwermeyer thoughtfully and generously brought us lunch from the local mom & pop pizza shop, supplemented by boxes of fruit and energy bars. Good stuff.
We had a chance to meet GC Joe Murray's family, and had a good chat with them, too.
So with extra sleep and clean laundry we met the middle of the day head on.

What a Day!
Here's another video clip from Jesse Knight and his gang.
I put his first since it's so nicely done. We expect great things from these young men (and the School is looking for help to pay for the editing, if you're interested.)

I was telling Will and the rest of the folks on the most recent Projects Committee conference call that in 25 years of field events I have never experienced a better combination of good will, infrastructure and hospitality on the part of our partners.

It an attempt to keep his work from becoming an attractive nuisance and halting production and hampering concentration throughout the day, Stephen Morrison's got the entry bent scribing layout all ready to roll, and blew the whistle.
All of us crowded around for the demo:

Got a new guy today; wandered in a day early and upset the housing plan a bit, but we're nothing if not adaptable, especially when it comes to our friends new and old.

Brian Phillips brought all sorts of cool tools to this event from his rigging shop in South Carolina. We'd be glad to have him if he came with just an old hammer.

But in this case he brought this magnificent tenon rig that ProTool makes, and we got some hurry up help from TimberWolf tools in replacing the knives - thanks to Marc, and to David Powell, and especially to Brian Phillips.

A busy day, with threatening rain but no showers after all.
We were serenaded all afternoon with a cacophony of crashing and smashing as the waterline guys tried to button up their work down below on the building site - right where we want to be building bents come Saturday.
Looks like Thursday will bring enough rain to turn that to soup unless they can get it level and graveled on Wednesday. The hyperactive and charming Romanian stucco crew (the crew's from Romania, not the stucco) is all finished up except for striking their set. Their silo finish work is itself striking.

Christmas in June! The FedEx lady and the UPS man brought us boxes and boxes of sponsored necessities; thanks to Northcott Woodturning for 600 beautifully made pegs. Thanks to GRK for boxes and boxes of their structural fasteners (and the drivers to install them). Thanks to Hilti for the magic chemistry that will hold it all to the foundation - and the tools to install that.

Sunday morning, the guys who needed it most went off to church while the majority of the crew continued with layout and checking apace. Each crew is projecting a different level of progress, and of course, several sticks have been laid out several times.
Whit & Gable have devised a 'status at a glance' board at the uphill end of the shop - to which each team reports the condition and position of their sticks in the production chain.
Cutting breaks out after lunch!

A long day for explanations and paperwork.
We've sorted ourselves into teams based on collections of frame parts - which seems logical enough, and easy to understand. Each team has a crew leader and a mix of rookies and pros assigned.

While we like to balance contributions between the auctions (on-line only, live only, silent, bag auction, etc) we guarantee we will find a good spot for your donation. Please contact Joel or Will if you have an item or service you'd like to donate, or just to discuss the process.
We're open to all manner of useful, curious and whimsical contributions; for Sunriver we saw traditional selections of services and tools and materials, bolstered by some unusual and intriguing items; lobster, tours, chain mail, so don't hold back.

It's arrival day, kind of like reunion. A few of you have snuck under the fence early and given some mild heartburn to our excellent hosts at the Folkschool, but we're going to make that up to them and more by being the most welcome guests this place ever had, and leaving behind a remarkable and handsome building.
Your leadership team (Whit and Gabel Holder, George and Stephen Morrison, Peter Bull, Jayson Wilson, Ford Hall and Kevin Lanier) arrived early for some torrential rain and primitive camping.
