Brian Phillips brought all sorts of cool tools to this event from his rigging shop in South Carolina. We'd be glad to have him if he came with just an old hammer.

But in this case he brought this magnificent tenon rig that ProTool makes, and we got some hurry up help from TimberWolf tools in replacing the knives - thanks to Marc, and to David Powell, and especially to Brian Phillips.
John Coffman, cosseted with hearing protection, checking layout at the other end of the stick.
The soundtrack isn't much, but check out that little gauge on the fence that he flips down right at the end of the video clip; that's to locate the NEXT cut. Still of the finished product are in the gallery 20090603.

Then for a more meditative experience, we have Ford Hall and his slick - still needing hearing protection because of what's going on around him though.

There is a LOT of action in the shop today; tools and noise in every corner, and a good deal of stuff moving towards completion. The layout guys need earplugs AND protectors to achieve enough peace and quiet to get some thinking done.
In the meantime, the cacophony of cutting surrounds the center aisle uphill end, where Kevin Lanier is leading the charge on building the B wall - the first moment we've had any tangible feel for the size of this building. We must be some crew to build something that big, and that well.
~~~~~~
Tom Steffen came all the way from Florida to take a week's blacksmithing course, and then stepped up to the plate to learn and do some timberframing. We see him earliest in the morning down at the coffee machine with the rest of the guys wh are playing hooky from Role Call. He's forgiven though for his deft handling of the Makita mortiser, shown below.
Tom's a big guy, but he still has to stand on a block to get over top of these big pine posts.
And finally, the briefest of vignettes of Router Man and Heartwood Apprentice Will Fowlkes keeping it real in housing land with the big Hitachi.
Altogether an EXCELLENT day of production, and not a single bandaid was deployed.
Crew size at rollout = 45
Manhours invested at the end of this day = 2261
Meals appreciated by the end of this day = 671
